Actions speak louder than words. Before enrolling, take a walk by the playground when the kids are outside. You'll find the staff standing around in a circle ignoring the kids. The lack of supervision extends indoors. During transition (when we attended daycare with our child to acclimate him to the new environment) we left him in the classroom to go sign some paperwork - away for no more than 15 minutes. On our return he had a bad scratch and bruising on his face - only after he came home did we realize the extent of it. The staff member was monitoring 3 children (including our child) at the time and did not know what happened. We enrolled my son in this daycare because we liked the previous supervisor after our tour. By the time my son was ready to start, a new supervisor had taken over. When we brought up our concerns with the new supervisor, not only did she fail to address them, but she blamed my wife's behaviour during my son's transition, and made up falsehoods. Other concerns: - The diaper changing "table" (counter) in the room was the same as the counter (where the sink is) which was used for other activities - one half had the sink, the other half was the change area. - There was a loft with a staircase in a room with 18 month olds. Combined with the low quality of supervision, it's just waiting for injuries. We were lucky enough to find a nearby nursery school which had a spot available immediately. Only after starting at the new place did we realize how bad Shaugnessy Children's Centre is. Avoid this place at all costs.
